[ Doing what? Treating her best friend and her partner that she only gets to see in person for three days at the beginning of each month to a much deserved staycation in Nocwich? ]ย
[ When Wanda does arrive she'll find Hilda there standing outside of the inn with two bags (one too many for a weekend trip). Upon spotting her she perks up, immediately waving and encompassing her in a huge hug when she sees hers. Instead of letting go immediately though she clings on. ]
It feels so good to hug you. Abraxas really is inconsiderate for keeping us apart like this.
( wanda figures she should have anticipated as much, but at least she gives herself a heads up for the hug, pushing the bag she carries on her shoulder towards her back, so it won't get mushed. her other travel bag, she lets fall to the ground. it's just clothes, it'll be fine.
to hilda's delight (surely), wanda returns the embrace, though she is a little awkward about whether is time for her to let go or not. )
The territory restrictions for the Summoned seem a bit of a waste considering we can just meet in Nocwich. ( โlike, what's the point? wanda huffs, though, and does, ultimately, pull hilda back a touch. ) I brought sweets.
Tell me about it. But they're all old and stubborn and set in their ways. I can't say I'm surprised.
[ Despite her words, there's a levity to them mostly brought on by Wanda returning her hug. Which is to say that Wanda is absolutely correct in assuming that Hilda is delighted by the hug. Thrilled, in fact. That only serves to have her holding on a beat or two longer before pulling back to give her friend a proper once over.
The prospect of sweets has her eyes lighting up as she quickly waves a hand for Perry, the unseen ghost friend, goes to pick up the bag that Wanda had put down. ]
Great minds think alike. I also brought some and a tea blend that Sylvain is trying out. I figured no girl's night would be complete without it.
[ With her arm looped through Wanda's she leads her through the door inside. True to Hilda's word it is undeniably cozy. The cooler temperatures means the fire in the corner crackles, filling the area with warmth. It's clear from the cozy plush seating area and bookshelves that line the walls in an eclectic manner that this place prioritizes coziness.
Getting the room is a quick process and soon enough Hilda all but throws open the door to their room with it's king sized bed and fairy lights that bob lazily in the air amidst the foliage that drapes from the rafters. The sunset can be seen from the large circular window behind the bed. ]
Oh, they even left us robes for the hot springs later. How thoughtful!
( it is quite the exceptional place, one of the more expensive inns that wanda hasn't really turned to look at because she isn't sure (and doesn't want to know) if she'll be able to afford, and matt's never cared about how a place looks anyway, so it's not like he can enjoy any of the sights and views.
wanda heads for the plush sofa in the room, taking off her boots and comfortably sitting down, legs pulled up under herโlooking around, leaning back, letting herself relax. )
I'm not offering to pay anymore. ( โthe offer is off the table, even if she had offered matt to do so. ) Do you want to sit for a bit?
[ Hilda has been to enough spas and cozy little inns at this point that Hilda is will aware that some things are considered extra. But being financially stable (and having two partners who are more than happy to spoil her), means that while she's more financially savvy than she had been before arriving, she's still more than happy to splurge. ]
But yes, let's.
[ She's quick to join Wanda on the sofa, dropping her bag onto the table and snuggling up to her. Her head fits neatly into the crook of her friend's shoulder. ]
( maybe it's the fact that wanda finds it easy to be cozy in the intimacy of a private space, without prying eyes, or maybe it's the allowing herself to relax with hildaโ what happens, though, is that wanda leans against the other woman, allowing herself to be snuggled upon without much protest. )
It's just been โ a couple of tiring months.
( they've been here so long, and they don't seem to be able to catch breaks proper, despite moments like this. )
I guess I miss some of the conveniences from home, too.
[ That has her sighing a little, her thoughts going to the changes that the Singularity had given her. ]
Tell me about it.
[ Perhaps that's why their friendship has always just worked. Hilda has never had a problem being affectionate or showing her affection. She respected others boundaries of course. But she still wanted to show people that she cared and that she felt comfortable with them.
Like now.
She cozies into Wanda's side, drawing her legs up onto the couch. ]
Things like the technology in your domain you mean?
( wanda doesn't think she could properly encapsulate what all 'technology' stands for in her more modern world. the conveniences of every day life, exacerbated by their lack here. )
You remember the television I showed you? There are these โ big theaters. You can go to them to watch movies. The chairs are comfortable, there's air conditioningโcool air that keeps being pushed in through vents, and you sit in the dark to watch people acting.
( a small comfort that she'd found while in america. she was just one more of many, and she could get lost in someone else's life. )
There's no real mindless distraction here in Abraxas. Maybe in the Cities, but we have to make our own entertainment in Solvunn.
( quite literally, too. what with wanda hexing a mirror to become a tv. )
[ Admittedly it's a difficult concept for Hilda to wrap her mind around when by all accounts, everything in the Free Cities was leaps and bounds beyond what she had been used to in Fodlan. But she's been educated since befriending multiple people from modern day Earth. ]
I was going to say that the closest thing I could probably offer you is the plays. Ed and I were going to work on recreating the one he'd written during our time as gods but...
[ Her voice trails off as she thinks about her funny friend who had gone back to what she hoped was a well deserved vacation.
The theatre as a form of entertainment has never failed to capture her wonder. The stories and the passion that went into the storytelling was something that she would never tire of - it's ironic that she had somehow found employment at the Old Public Hall. ]
I can't believe I'm saying this but have you considered books?
( wanda feels so tired lately, and when hilda mentions ed, knowing that he is gone now, wanda can't help but feel that exhaustion spread to her bones. they've been here so long, the two of them, and while things have had their lows, the highs have been nurturing and restorative; still, with a pact to a god, the constant ebb and flow of shame and guilt from her past, making herself believe and trust in a future that she herself doesn't really believe is going to happen at allโ
this is when wanda leans heavily into hilda, hiding her face against her friend, like a child is wont to do when wanting comfort and to hide away from the world. )
I like books.
( is what she says, quietly, and nocwich has many that she enjoys reading. )
The selection in Solvunn isn't so great.
( there's exhaustion in her words, but also her tone makes it sound as if she wants to say more yet can't bring herself to do so without her throat tightening and tears prickling at her eyes. it'd be impossible for hilda to ignore it, and wanda is too tired to try and hide it from her.
and, perhaps, the only hint that something is wrongโthat wanda is fully aware is wrong, and doesn't want to cause others to know and worry, are the following words: )
[ As Wanda leans into her, Hilda's eyes flutter in some surprise but she doesn't hesitate in drawing her close and wrapping her arms around her friend to support all of her weight if she needs it. Her hand comes to rest lightly against her hair, stroking it in the hopes that she would find it soothing. ]
You could just ask me to bring you some, you know. We could do a little exchange every month. I'll even wrap it up for you as a surprise.
[ Small gifts, small gestures - all of them cultivated the relationships that mattered the most to her and wouldn't ever be considered a burden. And if Wanda was feeling this way, and perhaps had been for some time now, for it to show so palpably when she had always put on a facade of even and put togetherness then it was more important than ever that Hilda helped in whatever way she could.
And right now, listening is the thing she can offer.
When she asks her not to tell Matt concern immediately flits across Hilda's face and her mind goes a mile a minute wondering what could possibly be wrong. Her grip tightens against her shoulder as she pulls her close. ]
