Well Cadens has this new powerful armor with explosive discs they were using in the Badlands. They got the technology from a rift monster. We were worried they'd cause more danger to people, so me and Steve found the base they were creating these new weapons at and blew it up.
We almost got out but they caught us, so they put us in the mining camp as punishment.
I was in full control of the explosion, Wylan taught me and he's an expert. We made sure no one was in the blast. Frankly that's probably why we were caught, we tried too hard to keep people alive.
[ Steve did at least, Jesper probably would've left them there, but that's how callous he can be, whoops. ]
They used technology from someone's world so it was our fault it existed here, we had to get rid of it. Temporarily, they'll build it back up again, but it'll take time.
[ She's had similar arguments with Wylan in the past; it's hard for her to believe that everyone has everything fully under control with something as volatile as explosives - but she's not in the mood to argue about how silly or stupid that is at the moment. ]
I know, but they wouldn't have gotten the tech if the Summoned weren't here. Steve feels responsible because I think he may have been the person to take down the monster, but he couldn't stop the Free Cities from taking the technology from it.
Hilda with that armor they could walk up to Thorne and blow up the castle with our friends in it, I couldn't let them make an entire army of it!
The worst didn't happen, we're just forced to work in the mines for a bit.
Honestly, they weren't a match for us. I could have killed the whole lot of them myself, but Steve knew we'd be locked up for a long time if we did that, so we just knocked them out.
They've figured out what I'm doing with the corecloth. They're offering to pay me for it. For now. But I think we all know that they'll force me if they have to.
[ Like throwing them into the crater, they'll use their resources. This has actually been a few of Jesper's since he first arrived in Abraxas, and there is an inevitability around it since he started making clothes that way. For the Summoned only, but more recently with some of their clothes, as they altered their fashion enterprise to fit the need for protections.
It was always a risk and he took it. They just had a reason to force it now.]
[ There's a long pause between Jesper's message and Hilda's reply. It's difficult for her to say how she feels about this exactly. Not because she's concerned for her own well-being or their business becoming tied up with the government, but because she's worried about Jesper.
Men have always been a source of headache and Jesper it seems has joined that group. It's some time later that she responds, needing to take time to think about her response and to not respond with a knee jerk reaction. ]
[ If it's his safety, if it's going into prison or the mines, he might stubbornly do that for awhile until he can't handle it and give in. If they threaten Hilda or their business, he'll do it right away. He has several weak points that can be leaned on. ]
If I'm stuck in this position, I think it'd be better to be paid for it. Maybe we can be richer than Jaskier. Now that's worth striving for.
[ This is Jesper trying to joke when he doesn't feel like joking. It's strained and forced for certain, but he always tries. He's trapped, like he was always afraid of being.]
