If he didn't tell you himself, he's a terrible liar -- I can see why he'd leap at the chance to have someone else ask for it. There's no harm done, and the surprise was worth any confusion.

He loved acting when we were younger, recreating scenes from his favorite novels with his uncle and myself for the enjoyment of his younger brother. It's only a shame he never got... better at it, with time. I think he would have enjoyed an actor's life. But for the sake of both of us, thank you for your ability to pull it off.
